UNAIDS COUNTRY DIRECTOR PAYS COUTESY VISIT TO THE NATIONAL AIDS COMMISSION
On Thursday, June 14, 2018, the Country Director of UNAIDS, Dr. Mariam Chipimo, made a courtesy call on the Acting Chairman of the National AIDS Commission with a reaffirmation that UNAIDS stands ready to provide full support to the National AIDS Commission in its endeavor to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.
This first courtesy and acquaintance call prompted a Status meeting with NAC’S Acting Chairman, Commissioner Theodosia S. Kolee and her core team; to share UNAIDS funding envelope for Liberia for 2018. She also shared her experiences on how other AIDS Commissions across Africa operates and promised to work closely with NAC to improve its coordination mechanism for any effective response to HIV and AIDS in Liberia. Dr. Chipimo also expressed her willingness to collaborate with the Commission to strengthen the capacity of Civil Society Organizations and also to find solutions to challenges currently being faced by the national HIV response particularly, the issue of stock out of key HIV commodities at major health facilities across the County. In response, the Acting Chairperson of the Commission, Hon. Theodosia S. Kolee expressed her gratitude to Dr. Chipimo for the level of work she has done to accelerate HIV interventions in Liberia through the implementation of the Catch-Up Plan in counties with the highest HIV burden particularly, Montserrado, Margibi and Grand Bassa. Both the UNAIDS and NAC promised to work closely to ensure that Liberia meets the 90 90 90 targets set forth by the United Nations.
