Sixteen years ago, the International AIDS Conference was held in Durban, South Africa at the same venue where it was held this year. Sixteen years earlier at the same IAC, protestors demanded access to lifesaving antiretroviral therapy. Their call, echoed by former South African President Nelson Mandela in his closing address, marked a turning point. Soon thereafter, global drug prices began to fall and treatment became more widely available.Read full story.
